Ronaldo’s Club Al-Nassr Fires Coach Again

Cristiano Ronaldo’s team,Club Al-Nassr, is searching for a new coach following the dismissal of Portuguese coach Luis Castro yesterday. This marks the second coaching change since Ronaldo joined Club Al-Nassr.

The 63-year-old Castro struggled to make an impact in the new season of the Saudi Pro League, with Al Nasr winning just 1 of their 3 matches so far. In a statement on social media, Al Nasr announced, “Al Nasr informs that head coach Luis Castro has left the club. We thank Luis and his coaching staff for their dedicated work over the past 14 months and wish him all the best for the future.”

Last Monday, Al Nasr drew 1-1 with Iraqi club Al Shorta in their first AFC Champions League Elite phase match, which led to Castro’s dismissal.

Rudy Garcia resigned as Al Nasr’s coach in April of last year, just four months after Ronaldo joined the club. The French coach was dismissed by Al Nasr due to his failure to lead the team to the top of the league table.

According to Saudi Arabian media and reported by the Associated Press (AP), Italian coach Stefano Pioli, who led AC Milan to the Serie A title in 2022, has been selected as the new coach for Al Nassr. Pioli left Milan last May.

Stefano Pioli could be the new head coach of Al Nassr. Former Porto coach Luis Castro took over Al Nasr in July of last year but did not secure any major titles in Saudi Arabian domestic football. Despite having stars like Ronaldo, Aymeric Laporte, and Sadio Mane, Al Nassr finished second in the league last season, trailing 14 points behind Al Hilal.
